Botox /ANTI WRINKLE Treatments

Botox TreatmentsBotox Treatment is the most popular non-surgical aesthetic treatment. It is highly effective in erasing the facial wrinkles and lines without surgery and with no downtime to recovery. It also enhances skin texture over time to promote a fresher, healthier and more youthful look.

At ‘Excellence Medical’, the Botox treatment work is carried out by our medical director Mr Roy. We do not have nurse practitioners administering this treatment under supervision.

Botox Treatments

How do facial wrinkles develop:

Facial wrinkles develop due to constant over activity of facial muscles with associated repeated skin creasing over time. This is coupled with the slow down of collagen and elastin fibre production by the skin with the ageing process.

How does the Botox treatments work:

The Botox treatment relaxes overactive facial muscles, softening the skins crease lines that result from these hyperactive muscles. The Botox procedure uses very small quantities of purified protein toxin from Clostridium botulinum bacteria to inhibit the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junctions to put specifically targeted small facial muscles into temporary relaxation or in other words a temporary state of sleep.

Trapezius Muscle botulinum toxin (Botox) Treatments also referred to as Trapetox:

1. Indications for treatment :

– Trapezius muscle spasm causing discomrt and pain in the trazepius muscle area with or without stiffness.

– Slimming of the trapezius muscle to give a better defined neck and shoulder area, imparting a beautful feminine look.

Slim shoulders and neck, combined with clearly visible collar bones are widely regarded to be beautiful and desirable features in a woman. On the other hand, overdeveloped trapezius muscles are seen as an overtly masculine trait, and undesirable for women.

If you feel that your trapezius muscles are too big, you can enquire about our trapezius muscle slimming botulinum toxin (Botox) treatment.

How does trapezius slimming treatment work?

Botox is injected into the trapezius muscle to help relax them. The trapezius is a substantial muscle that borders the rear of the head, neck and shoulders. When these muscles are abnormally proportioned, they make the shoulders appear large and masculine. When Botox is injected into the area, the neck and shoulders undergo a process of remodelling and reduce in size, creating a more feminine sculptured appearance.

Botox ® Treatments FAQ’s

If you start Botox, would the lines and wrinkles get worse if you stopped
It is a commonly asked question usually at the first consultation and treatment. The answer is no. If, for some reason, you decided not to renew the treatment, the fascial muscles after a few months would go back to previous state and the associated lines and wrinkles would return and would be the same or better as compared to before the treatment.
Should I be concerned and nervous that it is a ‘toxin’
It is a ‘toxin’ but is a very well researched and approved medicine and is used in extremely small therapeutic doses with no serious long term side effects.
How long does a Botox® treatment take to be performed
We go through a full consultation and evaluate your wrinkle lines and your expectations along with your medical history and physical examination, which usually takes 10-15 minutes. The actual treatment itself takes 5-10 minutes.
Is it painful to have the treatment
This treatment is expertly carried out with very fine needles of an insulin syringe which makes it gentle and virtually pain free for most people. Patients usually describe the treatment as ‘it was fine’, ‘not too bad’, ‘a bit stingy’, ‘ it was tolerable’, ‘it was bearable’. If there is still a concern, as people can be nervous, topical local anaesthetic cream can be applied prior to administering the treatment.
Can I go back to work after the treatment
Absolutely. It is a non surgical treatment that takes a few minutes. You can have a bit of redness and swelling which disappears away soon. There is no downtime to recover and no disruption to your lifestyle.
How long does it take to see the effects
The initial effects are usually visible in 24-72 hours, reaching it’s maximum in 2-3 weeks. A few days after your Botox® injection treatment, your appearance will be visibly fresher, natural and younger looking and the benefits may last up to six months. You will also feel better and positive about yourself.
How long do the effects of the treatment last
The effects range to last between 3 to 6 months. Re-treatment is then necessary if you wish to maintain the effects. It is advised that starting off , a patient may have the treatment every 3 months for the first year and then as it is required, which may be twice or thrice a year.
What is the average age for having the treatment
The average age although not strict and depending on the indication, is 25 to 65 years.
When Should the treatment be repeated
The treatment should be repeated when you feel that the effect of the previous treatment has worn off in that the lines and wrinkles have reappeared nearly as before the treatment. This is usually at 3-6 months after the treatment.
What are the unwanted side effects of the treatment
Side effects or risks from the treatment are uncommon. Occasionally there can be bruising at the injection site which spontaneously fades away in a few days without any treatment and can be covered with make up in women. Also, very occasionally a temporary drooping of the eye brow or eye lid can occur which resolves completely with time. At Excellence Medical we go through a thorough consultation and answer all your questions, to make sure you understand the treatment before you sign a consent form and opt to have the treatment done.
Are there any contra indications to having the treatment
Pregnancy and lactation are contra indications to this treatment. At Excellence Medical, we will go through your medical history carefully to make sure that this treatment is absolutely safe for you.
Can the procedure delay the aesthetic signs of ageing
Yes. Fascial muscles hyperactivity influences the ageing process in a very profound way. By negating hyperactivity of these fascial muscles, it can act as a preventative measure to delay the aesthetic signs of ageing. It may prolong and negate the need for future aesthetic surgery.
